WorldWise is the Irish Aid Schools Linking and Immersion Scheme. It aims to raise awareness of development issues among Irish students, teachers and the wider community, and to heighten interest in and relevance of development education within the post-primary curriculum.
WorldWise provides funding to second-level schools and colleges that are involved in immersion and linking projects with partner schools or organisations in developing countries.
Schools involved with WorldWise have been invited to come and create a Global Village Market to showcase and celebrate their involvement in partnerships with schools in the global South. Other schools interested in finding out what has been happening through partnerships are invited to visit the Global Village Market in the afternoon. This quote from a Basutho student captured the essence of partnership for the two members of the WorldWise team who travelled to Lesotho in September to visit schools involved in linking projects with partners in Ireland. Our talks with students and teachers in four schools focussed on the essentials (roots) and the expectations (fruits) of partnership learning. We also discovered where partner schools are on the partnership journey. Already some of the Lesotho teachers we met have travelled to Ireland. When they return home they plan to establish a local network to share the learning from these visits and to share ideas with other Basutho schools involved in linking. A full report, feedback from partners and key findings from the visit will be available with our next update.

Irish Aid has drawn up the list of countries that are eligible for WorldWise projects under the current round of funding.
Now that grants have been fully allocated for the 2008-09 school year, WorldWise will be supporting teachers and schools to implement their projects in a number of different ways: through professional development training for teachers, information seminars about the programme and application workshops in advance of our deadline of March 27 2009 as detailed below.
