Offering New Hope with Ancient Remedies

Across the world Irish Aid is involved in developing new and innovative strategies to combat HIV/AIDS, including collaborations with local, traditional healers. In Tanga, located on Tanzania’s east coast, the Tanga AIDS Working Group works to reduce HIV transmission and to assist people living with AIDS through health education, counselling and testing services and home-based care—all done in collaboration with traditional healers. They have initiated unique research project on using traditional herbs to treat HIV/AIDS, whilst at the same time improving the treatment knowledge of traditional healers.
