Regular Volunteering v Online Volunteering
For me, the convenience was the most attractive part; I could actively
volunteer but do so while working from home. It is quite useful because it allows the volunteer to work from home and choose their own hours, which I believe is a major draw for those who wish to participate in the Online Volunteer work.

What kind of work can online volunteers do?
To date, I have undertaken just one assignment for Native Planet (www.nativeplanet.org), a non-governmental organization dedicated to the self-empowerment of indigenous peoples and the preservation of world ethnic cultures.

I completed several writing/editing assignments for them in preparation for the publication of indigenous mapping information. I hope to do further assignments again in the future. I am currently working on an assignment to evaluate the Environmental Impacts on National Parks in Africa, for the journal Centre for African Global Affairs and Peace.

Can Online Volunteering make a difference?
It makes a difference as it uses people with many skills and brings them together from all over the world to make a concentrated effort for development.

How was your Online Volunteering experience?
Online Volunteering has provided the opportunity to work with diverse people from all over the world and make a meaningful contribution to many Overseas Development projects.

Although I had work, family and college commitments, I was still able to
actively participate in the UN Online Volunteering scheme. For me, online
volunteering gave me an opportunity to actively participate from the
comfort of home.
