About the Centre

Located on Dublin’s main street, the Irish Aid Volunteering and Information Centre highlights the challenges facing developing countries. It is a dynamic environment for individuals and groups to engage with global development and the work of Irish Aid. The Centre is a first port-of-call for those seeking information on the personal contribution they can make to overseas development, including volunteering opportunities.

Interactive displays and exhibitions focus on global development challenges, such as access to education and the impact of the HIV and AIDS pandemic. Visitors are introduced to the Millennium Development Goals and Irish Aid’s partner countries. They are challenged to re-assess their thinking on some key development issues and to reflect on the personal contribution they might make to development.

Volunteering

The Centre provides information for those interested in development-related volunteering opportunities. Interactive kiosks give an introduction to overseas volunteering. They provide information on volunteering opportunities directly funded by Irish Aid and guide visitors to organisations offering development-related volunteering opportunities.

Learning

A specially designed educational programme for school and youth groups is available in the Centre’s workshop. The programme is aimed at second level students and young people and includes a tour of the Centre and an educational workshop where visitors learn about Irish Aid, its overseas development programme and opportunities to volunteer. Teachers can avail of pre-visit and post-visit teaching materials to maximise the learning benefits of the programme. Download the teachers resource materials

Events

The Centre is a venue for many cultural and public events relating to overseas development. We offer an exhibition space, conference facilities and a workshop area. Many events are open to the public - check the events calendar for details

The Centre is a dynamic space where visitors can interact and learn about development issues through multimedia displays and media presentations. It is a opportunity to gain an understanding of Ireland’s overseas development programme and obtain information on volunteering both at home and abroad.
