The relationship between Irish Aid and  Dochas, the umbrella body for Irish Development NGOs, is recognised as an increasingly important point of contact and cooperation between the Government and the non-Government sector.
Irish Aid and Dochas have a Memorandum of understanding for the period 2006-2008. Under the terms of that Memorandum, Irish Aid has been providing financial support for the work of Dochas in line with its commitment to strengthen the umbrella body as a strong and effective representative of the non-Government sector. 
 
Dóchas brings together Irish Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) involved in development and relief overseas and/or in the provision of development education.

Dóchas aims to provide a forum for consultation and co-operation between its Members as well as to help them speak with a single voice on development issues.
